Lancaster County Agricultural Society Announces Second Season of Adult Gardening Education Program

The Lancaster County Agricultural Society, in partnership with the Lancaster Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), is launching its second season of adult education classes designed to strengthen agricultural literacy, homestead skills, and conservation knowledge throughout Lancaster County.

The Society includes agricultural and FFA departments from Andrew Jackson High School, Buford High School, Indian Land High School, and Lancaster High School. These partners work collectively to provide hands‑on, research‑based education and broaden access to community agriculture programs.

“The Lancaster County Agricultural Society is designed to aid interested adults through systematic and organized education programs on agriculture and agribusiness,” said Tyler Outen. “We are excited to continue partnering with the Lancaster Soil and Water Conservation District to make our programs accessible and impactful for the community.”

This season’s classes will take place at a new, larger location equipped with state‑of‑the‑art presentation technology, allowing instructors to deliver clearer demonstrations, improved visual content, and a more immersive learning environment for participants. We will be meeting at the Lancaster High School Multipurpose Building at 870 Roddey Drive.

“This partnership is helping us expand our Sowing Seeds Program and broaden the community service opportunities for our FFA Chapters by offering a full adult outreach program for our citizens. We’re excited to bring new, skill‑based and farm‑focused workshops to Lancaster County, and we will have lots of great giveaways at each class,” said Amanda Roberts with Lancaster SWCD. “This season’s lineup features Food Preservation & Safety, Milling Flour & Corn Meal, Regenerative Farming, Lavender Farming, Wreath Making, and Horticulture—each designed to educate, empower, and strengthen our community through hands‑on learning and conservation‑minded practices.”

 

The expanded adult education series is designed to help residents:
• Plan and maintain productive, sustainable garden spaces
• Practice eco‑friendly gardening methods such as composting and water conservation
• Explore connections between food, health, culture, and community resilience
• Access farmer and landowner support programs offered through SWCD and NRCS
